1953 - 2017
In Loving Memory of Gary Waingrow
Tournament Director, Gary Waingrow and Tournament Co-Director Bob Newland, started this trail in 2002, with the help and sponsorship of Bass Pro Shops and the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division. In February 2017, James Snead assumed the role of Tournament Director. These tournaments are open to all the kids in the community and are orientated towards the education of the sport of fishing in a fun family atmosphere.
The trail consists of up to eight tournaments a year. Six tournaments are qualifying events and one tournament is a wildcard. Participants are divided into two divisions; Small Fry Division for ages 5 thru 10 years old and Junior Division for ages 11 thru 17 years old. The top-qualifying anglers in each division will then compete in the trail classic.
At the end of every tournament, prizes are awarded to the first, second, and third place winners, as well as a big fish winner. At the classic, the grand prizes are awarded in an honorary ceremony. This year, we are proud to award a Bonafide Kayak to the winner, along with other great prizes. We also recognize and award an angler-of-the-year in each division.
We average 40 - 60 kids competing in all qualifying tournaments. We expect this number to continue to grow.
